Today, with our local historian and tour guide, you will gain insights into its history, particularly its status as the first capital of the Almoravid dynasty, which built the iconic Koutoubia Mosque. Your local guide will meet you at your riad at the appointed time. The tour will begin at the 19th-century Bahia Palace, followed by a visit to the oldest and most beautiful mosque, the Medressa Ben Youssef. Both places are stunning, adorned with intricate tiles and beautiful Arabic calligraphy. The next destination is the enchanting Majorelle Gardens in the new city of Gueliz. After that, you can take a leisurely walk through the new city, exploring its plazas and parks. After relaxing at your riad, take a stroll in the lively Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, listen to music, or get lost in the alleys of the medina.

People come from all over the world to admire the Hassan II Mosque, which features the largest minaret in the world and is the third largest mosque in the Islamic world. Later in the afternoon, arrive at your riad in Rabat. Rabat is the capital of Morocco and has recently undergone extensive renovations, becoming a cultural capital of Africa. Take a stroll in the medina and visit the Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and don’t forget the Oudaya Kasbah. You will fall in love with Rabat, which blends modern elegance with classic Moroccan architecture.

Your next destination to explore is Asilah. Its Portuguese ramparts, art galleries, and serene atmosphere of the small 15th-century city will captivate your senses. Visit the Krikia viewpoint, then proceed to Bab Qomar and Al-Qamra Tower. Pause for lunch featuring fish and traditional Moroccan lentils. Tangier, your next stop, is the birthplace of the famous traveler and scholar Ibn Battuta. Tangier is as diverse as Morocco, offering a wealth of historical landmarks, museums, and cafes such as the beautiful Café Al-Hafa. As a city with an international face, Tangier holds significant importance globally. Consider this quote from the Saving Places website by David Weible: “The longest tenured American-owned property on foreign soil is in Africa—Tangier, Morocco, to be exact. It’s the only National Historic Landmark on foreign soil and has served as a symbol of American engagement with the Islamic world and North Africa since the early days of the republic. Morocco was the first country to recognize American statehood (in June of 1786). What is now known as the Tangier American Legation in Morocco (TALIM) was gifted to the American government by Sultan Moulay Suleiman in 1821. Since then, it’s acquired quite a bit of history.”

Meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Overnight in a comfortable hotel in Tangier.
