Marrakech is nestled in the heart of Morocco and surrounded by unique valleys and beautiful landscapes. Imlil is situated in the Atlas Mountains, and it is 1/5 hours or 2 hours from Marrakech. Imlil is famous for being the gateway to the highest peak in North Africa which in Mount Toubkal. Most trek enthusiasts come first to Imlil to start their exciting journey. Imlil day trip offers stunning landscapes of the Atlas Mountains and an opportunity to engage in with the Berber culture and walk through the lush valleys and snowcapped mountain hills.

Itinerary

You will start your journey from your accommodation in Marrakech and head towards Imlil village. Along the way, you will pass through small villages, you will see mules, donkeys, nature and muddy roads altogether. You will have a break to stretch your legs and take some photos before arriving in Imlil.

As you arrive in Imlil, you can notice that there is a big change just in an hour and a half. That what makes Morocco so unique. The village spirit will take you over and you will feel peaceful. Your local guide will be awaiting you for your hike. For those who can’t trek on foot you can take mules as they are available. The local guide will introduce the village and its history while strolling through the village’s narrow streets.The hike starts From the intended location and it will be a moderate one. The trail will take you through the village where you will witness locals working in their fields and herding livestock. You will pass through villages like Aromd, Mizane where you will have a glimpse of the way Berber house are built and structured.

You will have lunch at Aremd which is only a short walk from Imlil a larger Berber village just a short walk from Imlil. Lunch will be eaten at a local Berber family restaurant, and you will enjoy it. While eating, you will have the chance to know more about the Berber culture and the role of agriculture in the area. Your adventure continues after lunch by trekking to the village of Tizi Ntamatert which is 7200 feet and takes 2-3 hours to reach the peak. But just being at this height, you can enjoy the stunning views of the Atlas Mountains.

NB: If the hike is too strenuous, you can opt for a shorter walk around Imlil and visit a local Berber family where you can learn how to make Argan oil or how to make bread or a tagine.

Return to Imlil to rest and sip some min tea before heading back to Marrakech. You will depart to Marrakech by 6:00 PM. On the way back, you will relax in your car while listening to the Berber music and chanting with your driver until you arrive in Marrakech with fond memories of your Imlil trip.
